An Ivory Trader in North Kenia
Longmans Green, London 1903 - The record of an expedition through Kikuyu to Galla-Land in East Equatorial Africa with an account of the Rendili and Burkeneji Tribes. 368 pp, 23 illustrations from photographs and a folding map in the rear. One of the most exciting elephant hunting books ever written. The author hunted for months in the northern frontier districts of Kenya but because the poachers preceded him, the elephants had departed. Notwithstanding this book is condiered to have some of the best descriptions of what it is really like to hunt for elephants on foot in Eastern Equatorial Africa. Hunting was mainly along the Gyaso Nyiro and the party did bag buffalo and rhinoceros. The tried to reach the Lorian Swamp. One member of the party, other than the author, did bag an elephant after an exciting hunt. A really lovely, vg+ to near fine, above average condition of this very scarce-to-rare, sought after and excellent book. Recased in original blue gilt cloth with a finely bound leather spine, raised spine bands and gilt rules in bands, new endpapers. Retains original front/rear cover. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
