London - Hurst and Blackett 1867 - A first edition of this somewhat controversial travelogue, detailing the author's travels around Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba, amongst others. Containing chapters on the customs of the local people anddiscussions on the ethics of slave labour, as well as geographical and geological descriptions. Completewithfrontispiece of 'A scene in Jamaica'. Condition: In a green cloth binding. Externally sound, with some marks to the boards and some shelfwear to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Neat ink inscription to endpapers and half-title. Pages are bright, with some scattered light spotting (particularly to first and last few pages). Overall: VERY GOOD.
