Very large format. Dual language English and French (English on one side of page, French on the other). Navy morocco binding, raised bands to spine and gilt floral borders. All edges gilt. 40 hand-coloured aquatint plates (as list but bound without frontis). Plate three shows the first published pictorial representation of a steam-engine on rails; built by Murray & Blenkinsop, Leeds in 1812, about two years before Stephenson's engine, it was used from 1812 until 1833. (Ref Abbey, Life 432). Boards marked and a little worn. Bookplate to front pastedown. Inscription in ink to title page. A few margin marks. Plates in beautiful condition. A very nice copy. [S]
