The Emblems of Maistre Gabriel Rollenhague, set to the françois by one
1583. Condition: Good. In-8 ( 15.8 x 23 cm), rigid scroll of era, speckled red slices, unpaginated, first edition of the French translation of the "Nucleus emblematum Selectissimorum" of Gabriel Rollenhagen (1583-1619, Madgebourg) poet and erudite German which is illustrated by his books of emblems and whose work "is the emblemiste tradition of Alciat and his followers in Europe North, Sambucus and Junius" (Jean-Marc Chatelain, books of emblems and currencies. " An Anthology (1531-1735), Paris, Klincksieck, 1993, p. 90). Our copy is complete 100 emblems engraved on copper by Crispin van past, including 9 macabre engravings (plates 1, 8, 14, 21, 45, 48, 49, 75 and 87); some foxing, small hole on the edge of the emblem of the 94, also beautiful State Board.
