"Everyone has a moment in history which belongs particularly to him. It is the moment when his emotions achieve their most powerful sway over him, and afterward when you say to this person "the world today" or "life" or "reality" he will assume that you mean this moment, even if it is fifty years past. The world, through his unleashed emotions, imprinted itself upon him, and he carries the stamp of that passing moment forever." The book has minor sunning to the spine. The boards remain very straight, the lettering is bright and legible, the binding is square. Internally this copy has a strip of newspaper that has been adhered to the top of front end page which has caused some offsetting but is otherwise very clean. Even with that noted this is a far superior example than is normally encountered. The dust jacket has only the most minor of shelf wear. A superb example which is bright, complete, and very clean. John Knowles' first and most important novel. Well, truth be told, it is his only important novel. A work about youthful friendship set in a boarding school which was modeled after Phillips Exeter. Basis for a 1974 film adaptation which did not do the short novel any justice. The adaptation starred John Heyl as Finny and Parker Stevenson as Gene. Uncommon in this condition.
