TRUE FIRST ED 1908 JACK'S MANUAL Grohusko Cocktail Bar Mixed Drink book BROOKLYN
1908. THIS BOOK HAS THE FIRST EVER MENTION OF THE "BROOKLYN" COCKTAIL. There have been other sales of this book claiming to be the first edition, but they were not. The true first edition was printed in 1908, and this is it. The rear section of the book is advertising as shown in (photo 7 & photo 8). 85 pages total with the last 18 being advertising. According to "" this book is the first ever mention of a BROOKLYN COCKTAIL. After Manhattan and the Bronx got their own drink, Grohusko created this drink for this book. The drink went nowhere for decades and decades but has made a comeback in Brooklyn where serious mixologists are using this version of the drink. In fact, the website has an entire article devoted to this drink But on to the book: This is a first printing and it is so rare as to be basically unknown. It was self-published and Grohusko was a bartender who could not afford to print many books. Let me be clear again, this is the only true first printing to have been listed anywhere in years. The copy that sold for $5,000 in April 2015 (photo 12) on ebay was a mess and was a 1910 copy while the copy that sold for $950 in June on ebay was printed in 1933 CONDITION: The condition is the absolute happy surprise of this book. It is "near fine". There is page toning and there is very light corner and edge wear to the boards but the book is otherwise gorgeous, especially when one considers its purpose, likely use and rarity.
