1813. The Voyages of Captain James Cook round the World Printed Verbatum from the Original Editions and embellished with a selection of the engravings In Seven Volumes London..printed for Sherwood Neel & Jones....1813 Here we have a very rare complete set of the seven volumes...bound in half brown leather over marbled boards..all original...with raised bands and gilt titles and decoration... 110x170 mm Probably intended as a popular edition at an affordable price the books are smaller than the original quarto's and the illustrations are more of sketches of the originals...with the benefit of being published with the complete text of the first edition. The bindings have extensive rubbing particularly on the joints and some have loss to the spine top edge, one has replacement leather at bottom edge...the joints are partially split on volume one...all the boards are held though...marbled endpapers to each volume, some toning to paper here and there and some brown leaf missing at the start of volume ones introduction and two leafs missing being the start of the trip from Plymouth to Madeira...the book starts with the observations of the island.... The first two volumes cover what is known as Cooks first Voyage The next two volumes cover his second Voyage The last three volumes cover his third Voyage. The books are all matching and the first edition of the set. One portrait. of Folding mapwith a joint split anda good number of folding plates which I will count and add tonight.
