Illustrated cloth panel pasted on front cover within gold border, as issued. Book resting in original (?) reptile-skin clamshell box. Interior of box lined in silk. For easy access top half of clamshell box folds back (as issued). Silk free front- and rear endpapers. Elaborate publication, profusely illustrated with over 300 reproductions of photographs and drawings in sepia-tone and duo-tone of the exterior and interior of buildings, landscapes, machinery, and livestock of the historic Heart's Delight Farm. Most plates with decorative floral borders in color. One mounted plate of a reproduction of a color painting in rear. Each page with quotes and poems by Shakespeare, Longfellow, Cervantes, Keats, Bryant, Tennyson, and many others. The farm was situated in Chazy, Clinton County, NY. In 1909 the farm was on 5,000 acres of land with barns, twenty miles of roadways, ten concrete dams, lakes & springs, over 10,000 maple trees, a grist mill, sausage factory, countless labor saving machinery, game preserves with bison, deer, elk and partridge, as well as staples raising purebred Percheron horses. Other livestock included Short horn Durham cattle, Dorset sheep, Yorkshire and Chester White swine, poultry, etc. By 1918, the farm had grown to 12,000 acres. The farm utilized a scientific approach to agriculture on a large scale, using new technology of the time and hydroelectric power to run an enterprise that employed over 700 workers in its heyday.
