(approx. 28 x 21.5cm) hardbacks in original board and paper bindings, pages uncut, good margins. 399pp.; 374pp. plus 15pp. Index to Vols. I and II; 255pp.; 301pp. plus 16pp. Index to Vols. III and IV, plus 4pp. Explanation of Foreign Words. Each volume has engraved frontispiece. The four volumes also illustrated with 15 engraved plates and 9 folding maps. Half titles to Vols. III and IV. A clean set with no previous owners' markings or inscriptions. Title page to Vol. I and Frontispiece to Vol. II partially detached. Sewing of binding to Vol. I rather stretched, as is front inner hinge to Vol. II. Occasional light foxing, mainly to prelims. Some offsetting from engraved plates. Creasing to first couple of blanks of Vol. III. Soiling to first page of Dedication (and facing blank) of Vol. IV. Uncut edges a little dusty. Boards and spines rather worn and soiled (please see photos) with paper covering to upper board of Vol. I torn with some loss.
