Krieger's Mond-Atlas, nach seinen an der Pia-Sternwarte in Triest angestellten Beobachtungen unter Zugrundelegung der hinterlassenen Zeichnungen und Skizzen, Johann Nepomuk Krieger, Rudolf Konig, Published by E.H.Mayer., Wien & Leipzig, 1912, two volumes, illustrated, cloth, 4to. In fair condition. Volume I: Cloth is discolored is somewhat soiled with fraying along edges, Espaillat at head and base of spine. Gutter shaken. Binding coming forward as a result. Previous owner's stamp on front end page. Text block is lightly toned, unmarked. Illustration guards are toned, but intact. Binding shaken, but intact. Volume II: Water damaged cloth with splitting hinges. Cloth is soiled with slight discoloration. End papers are sticking to paste down, resulting in ripping. Gutters are very shaken. Illustration guards are toned, but intact. Binding shaken, but intact. Overall, both have aesthetic issues, with volume II being more damaged. Text is not affected and both are unmarked. Please see photos. Johann Nepomuk Krieger (1865-1902), was a German astronomer having the Krieger crater on the moon named after him. Krieger's decision o create a definitive map of the moon, moved him to obtain a series of low-resolution negatives of the lunar surface that had been taken at the Lick and Paris observatories. He enlarged these images and used them to provide positional accuracy for his subsequent drawings.
