This history of England was written by Scottish writer Charles Macfarlane, known for his historical and travel works as well as his novel. They are edited by Thomas Napier Thomson. Thomson was a Scottish minister and writer, known as a historian and biographer. This history, regards the civil and military, religious, intellectual and social history of England. It discusses all monarchies, wars and social wellbeing from the earliest times, before the Roman invasion, to the close of the Russian war. In original blue blind-stamped and gilt-stamped bindings. Externally, generally smart. Bumping to the head and tail of spines and some rubbing to the joints. Small loss to head of spines to volumes I V, XI, XII, IX, and I. Small loss to tail of spines to volumes I, XII, IX and X. Internally, volumes are generally firmly bound. To volume VIII pages 187-190 have been removed, though are loosely inserted. Pages are generally bright. Volumes II, III, V, VI, VII, VIII, X XI and XII have the odd spot to the first and last few pages.
