SANGORSKI & SUTCLIFFE, London, England / Four Full Leather Bound & Slipcased Poetry Books: Shelley's Poems (1927), Milton's Poems (1921), Keats' Poems (1925), and Tennyson's Poems (1921) All Published by Oxford University Press These four beautiful volumes are bound in full leather with all edges gilt by London's famed Sangorski & Sutcliffe bindery; each is stamped on the inside left corner of the front free endpaper "BOUND BY SANGORSKI & SUTCLIFFE LONDON, ENGLAND FOR MARSHALL FIELD & COMPANY". Each of the four books is slipcased with marbled endpapers, five raised spine bands, gilt lettering and ruling to spines and covers, extensive gilt detailing to spine compartments, gilt inside dentelles and gilt outer edge detailing. With the exception of the Keats' Poems volume, each has a ribbon bookmark. These are, quite simply, jewels of the book binder's art, and they look terrific together. All four books are in very good or better condition. Please see photographs as to condition. The slipcases have protected these quality books well; the slipcases, book spines and edges show some wear, fading, soiling, scuffing, rubbing, and chipping. Please see photos. The bindings are tight and square and the hinges and joints are sound. Toning is exceptionally light and even. Some volumes have very light and faint foxing, mostly to the endpapers. All volumes are clean, bright, unmarked, and odorless. The Keats volume has the lightest wrinkling to the lower right corner of the title page and tissue paper that protects the frontispiece.
