An uncommon edition of this collection of historical biographies from William Seward. Illustrated throughout by thirteen plates, 2 sets of sheet music, and two facsimiles. Collated complete. Fifth edition. Including entries on Lady Fanshawe, Bishop Burnet, Gassendi and many others. William Seward (January 1747 â€" 24 April 1799) was an English man of letters, known for his collections of anecdotes. His papers of "Drossiana" in the European Magazine from October 1789 formed the basis of his anonymous Anecdotes of some Distinguished Persons (1795â€"7), 5 vols (a fifth edition in four volumes in 1804). Bookplate of noted bibliophile Ferdinand M. McVeagh to front pastedowns. Complete in four volumes. In mottled calf bindings. Externally, very smart, with just some slight rubbing to the extremities, and some slight bumping. Slight loss to the leather in a couple of places. Front hinges are slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of mild foxing and a few handling marks. Endpaper to rear of volume I missing, with loss to endpaper of volume II, and some pencilled annotations to the rear pastedown. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
