Published in 1844 by Ackermann & Company, London. Ultra rare First Edition. Detailed survey and proposals for creating a route from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans via the Isthmus of Tehantepec, which includes the Mexican states of Veracruz and Oaxaca & small areas of Chiapas and Tabasco . It includes a survey of the Isthmus by Gaetano Moro. Features three of it's original five maps. One colored folding map at front and two large maps at rear. Contains 188 total pages. Brown cloth, three-quarter marbled leather w/ five raised bands & gilt lettering on spine. Bookplate of Guatemalan diplomat Jorge Skinner Klee inside front cover. Slightly misshapen, some mild edge/corner chipping/rubbing on the leather portion of the covers, title pages missing edge/corner pieces, small tears on front map, larger tear on one of the rear maps, mild stains/ age wear on some pages, very solid condition for it's advanced age.
