His book 'A Tour of Duty in California" is a collection of personal essays of his experiences sailing from the Chesapeake to California. It became a guidebook for those traveling to the west coast. Revere included details on California's history, people, environment, the Gold fields and mines, the conquest of California, Indians of California and their wars, ceremonies, depredations, horses, hunting, revolts, African slavery in California and much more!
