This edition incorporated large additions to the 4th, large enough to have been published alone as a separate volume earlier in 1817. Original drab papered boards, uncut. Good condition: not cocked or bowed; papered spines intact with original labels; all joints hold together well despite some splitting; bookblock firm. I - 496pp. Front joint split along its length but holds well still; rear joint split along 1/3 of bottom end. Tail creased. Front endpaper: tearing to paper from where former bookplate was removed (see II and III). Small label in top left: "Sold by E. Pillans, 13 Hanover Street, Edinburgh". Vol. I endpaper name inscribed: "JGH Newfield". Foxing to boards, endpapers and light foxing throughout. II - 507pp. Split to bottom 1/3 of front joint and 1" at the top. Tail creased. Bookplate on front endpaper: "IN BELLO QUIES Murray Bart. of Auchtertyre". Foxing to boards, front 4 and rear single endpapers with light foxing throughout.
