Molinet Jean
The Faictz And Dictz Of Feu Of Bonne Memory Maistre Jehan Molinet Contenans
SARL ABRAXAS-LIBRIS, 1537. Condition: Very Good. Very rare second edition of the Oeuvres of Jean Molinet, having belonged in order to the following bibliophiles: Henri Bordes, Guy Pellion and Frédéric Lachèvre carrying the three ex-libris as well as the iron of F. Lachèvre on the first plate, preserved in a binding full red morocco probably executed at the end of the 18th century. Disciple of Georges Chastellain, Molinet was the last of the rethoricators of the court of Burgundy, the master of Jean Lemaire de Belges and the friend of Guillaume Crétin. Printed in Gothic characters, the title in red and black, it is the first edition of this format, the original having appeared in 1531 in the folio format. It was shared between six major booksellers of the time. Viollet-le-Duc, in his Poetic Library (1843, p. 131), analyzes at length and severely the virtuosity of Molinet who, he says, was convinced that poetry is nothing other than conquered difficulty. Among the many pieces contained in this volume, let us mention The Recollection of the marvelous stories of our times, started by G. Chastelain and continued by Molinet. It contains, in 140 eighteen, all the historical events which took place from 1428 to 1498, that is to say until the death of Charles VIII. The first stanzas are dedicated to the history of Jeanne d'Arc . Gothic characters, ornate Lettres , title printed in red and black.
