You are viewing: History of the Crusades By Joseph Francois Michaud - Member of the Academy of France Illustrated with One Hundred Grand Compositions by Gustave Dore Engraved by Bellenger, Doms, Gusman, Jonnard, Pannemaker, Pisan, Quesnel Published by George Barrie, Philadelphia - No stated date - Circa 1880's Large Leather bound hardcovers. Folio size 11" x 14.5" x 2.5" In Two Volumes - 364 pages / 362 pages respectively Each book contains 50 stunning full sized works of Dore, along with captioned tissue guards. Cover and spine are decorated in gold, with gilded page edge. Bound in two tone dark leather. I believe this to be the First American Edition though it is not stated. Condition Notes: The books are in very good condition for their age with a single glaring issue and several very minor ones. The top corner of volume two was exposed to a bit of water; and as such the ink from the cover has bled and created a stain that subsists for the first 10 or so pages of the book, before vanishing from the remainder (see photos). Volume one has a very tiny yet similar stain at the top corner that persists for only two pages (see photos). The end leaves are a textured white satin, and do contain the signature of the previous owner. No book plates or stamps. The end leaf of volume one has a small tear at the bottom corner next to the binding (see photos).
