Jane Berkeley-Calcott
VERY RARE unrecorded 1837 Stanzas Jane Berkeley Calcott child prodigy poetry
Dublin : George Folds, 1837. An incredibly rare, unique copy of the second edition of the poems by the Irish child prodigy Miss Berkeley Calcott (Jane Berkeley Calcott [later Gaskin]), published in 1837 and likely amended by the author or her patron. Stanzas by Miss Berkeley Calcott 1837 Dublin : George Folds Pamphlet in plain paper wraps, 56pp. Page 43/44 has been removed, losing part of 'Thoughts on an Infant's Grave' and an unnamed poem (which has also been crossed out of the contents page with a very penetrative ink). Authorial correction to page 47. A little creased, otherwise bright Only one copy of the original edition of 1834 is held by the British Library (and digitised by them), published when the author was aged eleven. That edition had ten poems, whilst this extremely rare second edition published three years later contains 36 poems and a new preface, and is institutionally unrecorded. Not in Copac or Worldcat. Calcott later moved from Ireland and married John Gaskin, the rector of St. Cuthbert's in Bedford. Overseas buyer contact me for P&P quote.
