Herissey, 1900. Melaenis, Conte Romain by Louis Bouilhet. Preface by A. Join-Lambert. Evreux, Charles Herissey, 1900. 4to, measures approx.11-3/8" x 8-1/4". Limited to 140 copies, of which this is number 82, and initialed by the publisher. With seventeen (17) engravings in color by Paul Gervais. Extra illustrated with a portrait of Bouilhet tipped in at the front. Bound in fine full levant morocco, raised bands on spine with gilt title, author, and date at bottom. Front cover in a gorgeous design of gold and silver gilt, with an original circular watercolor drawing inlaid into the cover. Wide inner dentelles are beautifully decorated in gold and silver gilt, and the binding is signed at the bottom "Randeynes & Fils". The endpapers are made of silk moiree, the second set of endpapers are marbled. Leather edges of book have a detailed gilt tooling design. All page edges are gilt. Just a superb fine binding! Randeynes et fils was a very prominent French binder in business from 1838-1934. This is a super nice example of their top tier work.
