Virginia Woolf
The Waves, Virginia Woolf, The Hogarth Press, 1931, First Edition First Print
The Waves, Virginia Woolf, The Hogarth Press, 1931, First Edition First Impression One of Virginia Woolf's finest and indeed most experimental novels. Six characters, reputedly based on close companions, narrate their way through childhood into adulthood. The book explores the ethos of male education and hints at the impact of bullying on the characters. One commentator suggested that the point of the work was that impactful events in one's life are often small and insignificant to the outside world. Good firsts in original dustjackets are hard to find and are eagerly sought. This is a first edition first impression in very good condition. The binding is tight and straight, the purple boards are bright with little wear. The endpapers and pages are clean without marks, tears or inscriptions. The iconic Vanessa Bell designed unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear removable cover, has some loss to the top right of the front cover and top and bottom of the spine. Otherwise the cream colouring has darkened a little to the front and spine but the overall design is still prominent. The quality of paper used is one reason why so few original jackets are now seen. A rare and very collectible copy of an outstanding work. Will be despatched by courier carefully double bubble wrapped in a sturdy cardboard box. [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]
