Charles Robinson's illustrated version of Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince and Other Stories. One of the best-loved classics of all. Book: The Happy Prince and Other Stories. Beautifully illustrated by Charles Robinson in an Art Nouveau style. Very rare, this is one of a very small edition of 260 copies only, issued in 1913, this is First Limited Signed Edition - signed by the illustrator, Charles Robinson on the limitation page. Published by Duckworth and Company in 1913, over 100 years ago. Recent cream gilt parchment boards. Illustrated with 12 full colour lithographs and with black-and-white drawing, TEG, other edges deckled ( rough cut or uncut). All plates under tissues. The recent binding is in perfect condition. Some staining to preliminaries, best shown by photos, to fep, half title, title, slightly to limitation and very slightly to first leaf. The lithographs are in perfect condition, slight wrinkling to tissues. Pictorial endpapers after Charles Robinson to front and rear. No bookplates or inscriptions. A charming and much loved book, beautifully bound. This rare book seems to be misunderstood by bibliographers, dealers and collectors. It appears to be printed on Japanese Vellum, although this is not usually stated in any descriptions that I have seen in my time. Japanese Vellum is a precious material.
