DICKENS, Charles
THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF MARTIN CHUZZLEWIT
Chapman and Hall, London, 1844. First Edition, first issue, in book form of Dickens's sixth major novel. 8vo. xiv, (2), 624 pp. Bound in half calf over green cloth by Morrell of London, with the top edge of the page coated in gilt leaf; spine, with 5 gilt raised bands and gilt lettering, slightly chipped at head and tail, with foral hexagonal devices. Engraved frontispiece and vignette titlepage together with 38 additional plates all by H.K. Browne (Phiz). Bound without the half-title, but with the 14 line errata leaf and the transposed '100£' on the vignette titlepage plate, usually suggested as a first issue point. As usual, the plates are heavily foxed, though mainly around the margins of the central image in each case, thus presenting minimal obfuscation to the depicted scenes. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
