A 1666 antique French language edition of the Relation du Voyage d'Adam Olearius en Moscovie, Tartarie, et Perse or the Relation of the Voyage of Adam Olearius to Moscow, Tartary, and Persia, in two volumes. Adam Olearius (1599-1671) was a German scholar and secretary to the ambassador of Duke Frederick III to the Shah of Persia. He also went on a diplomatic mission to Czar Michael I of Russia, and created this work as a travel narrative documenting his experiences in Russia, Central Asia, and Persia in the years 1633-1639. Also within these two volumes is appended the narrative of Johann Albrecht de Mandelslo (1616-1644), Olearius' fellow diplomat, who continued his travels further east to India, Ceylon, Madagascar and other regions in 1638. Mandelslo's account is here published posthumously by Olearius. This French language edition was published by Jean Du Puis of Paris, printed on laid paper, with full leather covers with raised bands and ornate gilt decorations to the spines.
