A. Morel 1875-1876, Paris. Finely bound dictionary set of the highlights of French Architecture from the 11th to 16th century. From the library of American stained glass designer and artist Louis Comfort Tiffany. Octavo, 8 volumes, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, marbled endpapers, elaborately illustrated. With Louis C. Tiffany's bookplate to the front pastedown and ownership signature to the front free endpaper of each volume, "Louis C. Tiffany, 1880." In very good condition. A remarkable rarity illustrating the profound influence French architecture had on Tiffany's work. Most associated with the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements, American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany became best known for his work in stained glass, particularly his Tiffany studios desk lamps. Tiffany trademarked and patented the process for producing favrile glass (from the French for handmade) in 1894 and became the first Design Director for Tiffany & Co., the jewelry company founded by his father in 1902.
