Compete 40 Volume Set 1843 The Naturalist's Library by Sir William Jardine
Condition: Good. Compete 40 Volume Set 1843 The Naturalist's Library by Sir William Jardine Antiquarian bookseller downsizing after 40 years in business. This set of 40 volumes contain about 1350 illustrations with spectacular colors. Published 1843, in Edinburgh by W. H. Lizars (who was actually the author's brother in law). These volumes are usually broken down for their individual images. a rare opportunity to own the 40 volume set. The leather spines are somewhat flaky and dry, but for the most part retain much of their attractive gilt, as does the top page ends of each volume. Cloth and leather boards. The boards are in some case a bit loose from the endpapers, but nothing detached. The pages are remarkably supple and fresh-feeling; just the occasional mark and some age-related dust. The colors on the plates are spectacular. Many if not all of the volumes are finely stamped (less than 1 cm high) Charles E. Lauriat Co. Boston on the front endpaper, presumably this is where the set was sold. Height of each volume is 6.75" and width of 4.5". Please feel welcome to inquire and request more photos. Carefully shipped; each volume individually wrapped and the set protected in multiple boxes with hard foam protection to ensure safe delivery. Signature required. Insured.
