Privately Printed, 1955. First Edition, Limited. Broadside. Near Fine. 39 x 30 cm. Stiff red card portfolio with poetry broadsides screenprinted on handmade Japanese paper. Light rubbing and faint soil to portfolio; light sunning to front cover. Faint 6 cm circular stain to inside of front cover with corresponding stain on recto of inside flap. Contains only 14 of the original 18 broadsides. The remaining broadsides are as follows: Unless There Are Flowers, "Listen" is a Purple Elephant*, What Indeed*, The Little Bug Angel, The Clock-Bear*, "With One Tiny Stick*, Tiger Contemplating a Cake, The Man With the Gardenias*, Behind Every Really Thoughtful Chicken*, The Giraffe of Sofas*, Sleeper Under the Tree, Binding the Quiet*, The Broom of Bells*, The Great Fly Fleet*. Starred broadsides were hand-colored by Patchen himself, and have been stamped as such. Five of the broadsides bear a label on the verso stating "From the Original MS Page by Kenneth Patchen. This and 199 other copies in silk screen reproduction were hand-run by Frank Bacher during the summer of 1955." The other nine broadsides bear a stamp on the verso stating "Handwritings for the Wall by Kenneth Patchen". A lovely and rare set of Patchen's broadsides in portfolio in wonderful condition, although unfortunately lacking four of the broadsides. [Attributes: First Edition]
