DU MAURIER, Daphne
The Loving Spirit
Heinemann, 1931. First edition, first printing. 8vo. 399pp. Blue boards with gilt lettering to spine. A very good copy. A couple of small marks to boards. Medium wear to extremities with no nicking or tearing. Mild toning to spine. Internally clean with old ink name & address to endpaper. Du Maurier's extremely rare first novel. The title is derived from a poem by Emily Bronte. Du Maurier started work on the book in 1929 at Ferryside - the Du Maurier's Cornish holiday home near Polruan and opposite Fowey. It is based on real events and places but names have been changed; Polruan becomes Plyn and the Slade family become Coombe. [Attributes: First Edition]
