Original Loujon Press Mailing List
1960. Original wraps. A very nice piece of literary ephemera from the great Loujon Press of New Orleans. An early, typed, 7 pg. "List of Names and Addresses for Loujon Press" subscribers, with lots of marginalia and markings, almost certainly in the hand of Jon and/or Gypsy Lou Webb, the legendary husband and wife founders of the Press. Minor soiling and creasing to the 8 1/2" x 11" pages and one or two small tears. The type though --as well as all the handwritten notes-- is still eminently clear and legible. Some interesting names to be sure appear on the list, such as Bernard Wolfe, Sydney Omarr (astrologer to the rich and famous), Emil White (confidante of Henry Miller), Jane Wald (comedienne and glamour girl of the 60s), Danny Thomas, David Saxon (American physicist and President of the University of California system), Gunther Stuhlman (editor of Anais Nin's Diaries), Barney Rosset (of Grove Press), Max Schuster (of Simon and Schuster), James Laughlin (of New Directions), Karl Shapiro (poet), Lawrence Clark Powell, Roger Corman, Wally Cox, Roddy McDowall, Kim Novak, Pierre Matisse, Aaron Spelling, Wallace Fowlie, Mrs. David Selznick, Frances Steloff (The Gotham Book Mart), The English Book Shop (Paris), Foyle's of London Book Shop, etc. Founded in 1960 by the Webbs, Loujon was known for its avant-garde, independent, high-quality publications, including issues of "the Outsider" and lavishly-produced works by Charles Bukowski (whose career the Webbs essentially helped launch) and Henry Miller, among others. Very Good. [Attributes: First Edition]
