Four 8-inch volumes (13.7 x 20.7 cm), half-calf period binding, smooth spine decorated with three gilded irons, title and volume number parts, 446, 492, 480 and 462 pages, frontispiece in first volume. This work attributed to Abbé Baston is the imaginary autobiography of Omaï's trip to Europe, Tahitian, who was brought to England by Captain Furneaux aboard the HMS Adventure, he lived in high London society and then participated in the Cook's third trip and was his translator then stayed in Tahiti to end his life there; first guard of volume 1 detached, friction on the boards, small lack of leather on the upper jaw of volume 1, also very fresh interior, good condition.
