Biographia philosophica. Being an account of the lives, writings, and inventions, of the most eminent philosophers and mathematicians who have flourished from the earliest ages of the world to the present time
London: printed and sold by W. Owen, and by the author, 1764. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Benjamin Martin was an important 18th-century scholar who compiled dictionaries and encyclopedias and was best-known for 'Philosophia'; a work that was developed out a series of lectures on experimental philosophy. He devoted his studies and experiments to optics, mechanics, hydraulics, natural phenomena, and astronomy. Martin's 'Biographia Philosophica' is a collection of biographical sketches of some of the most important philosophy minds in history - figures on whom he based many of his studies from 'Philosophia'. Martin covers the lives and work of figures including Roger Bacon, Francis Bacon, Edmund Halley, Albert the Great, John Locke, Isaac Newton, Ovid, Virgil, Pliny the Elder, Johannes Kepler, Galileo, and many more!
