The Good Soldier Schweik By Jaroslav Hasek Illustrated by Joseph Lada Translated by Paul Selver William Heinemann, London, 1930 First Edition - First Impression Very Good / Good + Original publisher's red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. 448pp. A Very Good copy, spine tips a little bumped, a little sunning to bottom edge of front board, page edges spotted, some spotting to first few and last few pages, previous owner's signature to front free endpaper, otherwise internally nice and clean, binding tight and square. In Good + rare original dust-wrapper, that has loss at top of spine and to bottom edge at spine and front panel, all edges a little worn with nicks, small chips and a little tanning and creasing, small chips at corners, spine and flap hinges a little tanned, closed tears at top of spine, bottom of spine and bottom of front panel all tape reinforced to underside - see photos, a little overall soiling. Now in removable, clear, protective cover. First Edition, First Printing of this classic 20th century novel. Exceptionally rare in the original dust-wrapper which is hardly ever encountered. Jaroslav Hašek (30 April 1883 - 3 January 1923) was a Czech writer, journalist, bohemian and anarchist. He is best known for his novel The Good Soldier Schweik, an unfinished collection of farcical incidents about a soldier in World War I and a satire on the ineptitude of authority figures.
