England: Fine. She Sir H. Rider Haggard. London: Longmans, Green and Co. 1887. Publisher's original dark blue beveled cloth with gilt decorated cover and spine. Swan patterned endpapers. Top edge uncut, with fore edge rough cut and bottom edge cut. Frontis of two colour plates showing the Sherd of Amenartus.First issue with four spelling mistakes, on p. 59 "geneleman" for gentleman; p 126, line 26 "had" for have; p 258 line 37; "it compared" instead of if compared; p 269 line 38 "godness me" instead of goodness. Scott 5 : Whatmore Clean interior hinges firm but barely starting to crack. Lower right corner of front board shows a little wear as shown in the photo. Overall the book is fine and about as good a copy as one will find. Included is a letter written to Haggard's brother, Alfred, Jan 1887 mentioning Andrew Lang, some others, virginity and "SHE." Also included is a cabinet card signed by Haggard with a small piece lacking from the lower right corner as shown. All this is enclosed in a full Morocco clamshell box, professionally made.
