A history of the Nile expedition of 1884-5, which was part of the effort to relieve General Gordon at Khartoum in the Soudan, taken from author's diary sketch book with a description of the events leading up to each sketch. .1885 (Feb) map, tinted lithograph half-title and 37 coloured lithographed plates by Keulemanns after the author,, unpaginated though 4pp list of subscribers, 2pp advertisements, oblong folio, original printed boards with original vellum spine now soiled. Some light tanning to text pages facing sketches, though sketches themselves are immaculate. Boards shows signs of shelfwear and rubbing, with some blemishes (see photo). Author's signature to the printed dedication page showing the inscription ''This Volume of Sketches is Dedicated by Special Permission to Her Most Gracious Majesty The Queen by her faithful subject and devoted servant WWC.
