Three years later, he went on an expedition, headed by La Salle, through the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi River. After La Salle left the expedition, Hennepin went up the Mississippi, toward the area of what is now Minnesota. He was the first French explorer in this area and discovered the Saint Anthony Falls. Hennepin wrote of his visit to Niagara Falls, which was the first published account of a visit there. The illustration of the Niagara Falls is also the first published but is not accurate. This edition reprints Hennepin's Nouvelle Decouverte, his Nouveau Voyage, and there is a supplementary account of Marquette's Voyages. In Nouveau Voyage, Hennepin's used contemporary works to write of La Salle's further exploration of the Mississippi River, the founding of Fort Saint Louis, and La Salle's murder. Wing (STC) H1452.
