Signature, A Quadrimestrial. A periodical of legendary importance: [1935-1954] John Piper Graham Sutherland Ravilious, Bawden Abstract
London: Curwen Press, 1936. The old series, issued without glassine wrappers. Rare with the original portfolio which has a small manuscript number written at the top, the backstrip of which is faded. Each of the three periodicals is in prestine condition. not the slightest indication of inner joint strain or wear to the spines. It seems perfectly possible that the three issues: 4, 5 & 6 have never been read. Clean crisp state, with the sought after plates in envious condition. There is no equal to those on offer, currently in the market place. Of particular note: Issue number 5, March 1937, contains three original lithographs by Eric Ravilious. These in effect, are advanced trial colourways for J. M. Richards, 'High Street'. They are entirely different from the equivalent in High Street, and as far as I know, obtainable nowhere else. 'High Street' was published the following year in 1938. PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE BIDDING ON THREE PARTS, FOR ONE YEAR; CONTAINED WITHIN THE ORIGINAL PORTFOLIO. These are numbers: 4, 5 & 6 of the Old Series. Signature. A Quadrimestrial of Typography and Graphic Arts, edited by Oliver Simon. It is difficult to overstate the importance of Signature. The consideration of typographical developments within the pages of Signature during the nineteen thirties and onward, has been added to in recent years by the reassessment of artists and printmakers such as Freedman, Nash, Bawde … [Cliquez ci-dessous pour une description complète]
