James Iredell
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">By James Iredell</span>
Edenton: Hodge & Wills, 1791. FIRST EDITION. 712 pp. Lacks the prelims and title page, thus incomplete. The first page is the table of contents page. Last page of text is also torn with some loss. Rather extensive writing on the pastedowns and rear endpapers. Ex-Sondley Reference Library copy with bookplate on front pastedown. James Iredell (1751-1799) was a noted North Carolina jurist. Appointed by President Washington as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1790. The North Carolina State Assembly requested that he compile and revise the laws of the state in 1787. (Chisholm v. Georgia, and Iredell's Analysis of the 11th Amendment). This "Iredell edition" is the fruit of his labor. Contains a copy of the United States Constitution from 1790, as ratified by the State of North Carolina. A rare and important early American legal document in the original full leather binding. Evans 23641; McMurtrie 170; Tower 639; Sabin 55637. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail. [Attributes: First Edition]
Bookseller: crottsy [Clemmons, North Carolina, United States]
