(Photo Album): Young Woman's Camping and Travel Photo Album from Pennsylvania
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 1910s-1920s. Near Fine. Hardcover. Oblong octavo measuring 9 "x 6". String tied, black leather over flexible boards with gilt decorations. Contains 112 black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring between 3" x 2" and 4" x 3" with some captions. Light edgewear to the spine and corners, near fine with fine photographs. A young woman's photo album of her life living on a farm and traveling with her husband in the 1910s through 1920s. The woman, Edith Widing lived in Pennsylvania on a farm raising horses, cows, and rabbits with her husband, Herman Yaffee. There are several pictures of her with her dog, Jimmy, who is seen camping and traveling with the couple. Most of the pictures show the area around their home with lakes, meadows, and a small farm. There are some pictures of friends and family around the house often seen posing in groups together and smiling. Some of the pictures show Widing out on a lake canoeing or fishing. Yaffee and Widing frequently went camping together in a small tent often in the forests around their home. The couple also visits Philadelphia with several shots of them walking in the city and visiting the Memorial Museum. Throughout the photo album there are images of Edith doing a handstand in fields, on the beach, and in the middle of the street in Philadelphia. Humorously the picture of her in the city has passerby's laughing and smiling at her. There are some pictures of Widing with what looks to be coworkers or close friends dressed in lab coats outside of a business, presumably a laboratory.
