Pierre Bonnard Le Soleil Verve Vol 5 1947 Original Limited ed Lithograph Teriade
1947. A beautiful Pierre Bonnard limited edition original print "Le Soleil" from Verve Vol 5 released in 1947, the last year of his life. This lithograph was produced as a distinct edition by Bonnard as the cover piece for the edition. This impression is a richly inked very fine one with fresh unattenuated colors. The modernist Parisian art magazine Verve was a collectable limited edition fine art periodical published by Teriade between 1937 and 1960. First published in December 1937, it featured original high quality printings of lithographs by the most celebrated artists of the period, with the first cover featuring an artwork by Henri Matisse. The headquarters of the magazine was in Paris. There were published 38 issues in 10 volumes with original lithographs by the most prominent artists of the Parisian art scene of the first half of the 20th century. In addition, the early contributors included renowned writers James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway. The original lithographs from the limited releases of Verve are bought and sold today in the marketplace and by the leading fine art auction houses around the world. Pierre Bonnard (1867 - 1947) was a French painter, illustrator, and printmaker, known especially for the stylized decorative qualities of his paintings and his bold use of color. He was a principle founding member of the Post-Impressionist group of avant-garde painters Les Nabis,and his early work was strongly influenced by the work of Paul Gauguin, and the prints of Hokusai and other Japanese artists.
