BREVIARIUM ROMANUM EX SACRA POTISSIMUM SCRIPTURA, & PROBATIS SANCTORUM HISTORIIS NUPER CONFECTUM... [Edited by Cardinal Francisco de Quinones]
Theobaldus Paganus, 1546. full morocco. 8vo. ff.(24),496. Double column text. Printed in red & black throughout. Ruled in red (faded). Woodcut on title. Finely bound in 19th century full dark brown levant morocco, gilt, by Riviere. A.e.g. Very good +. A very rare early edition of the Quinones breviary. The Quinones breviary was a radical departure from previous editions. The Biblical texts were expanded to include virtually all the New Testament and much of the Old, and it omitted almost all of the communal elements, such as the versicles and antiphons. It was thus much better suited to private devotion than earlier breviaries. Paganus also printed three other breviaries (in folio, 4to and small 8vo) in the same year (Bohatta 167, 168 & 169). This edition not in Bohatta, Adams, Baudrier, or Ales.
