William Morrow and Company, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover. Inscribed by Homes [Mainwaring] on the front endpaper. Very Good in a Good jacket, unclipped ($2.00), generally toned, creased and lightly chipped at the surface and edges. Green buckram on the boards, bumped at the corners, with black and red ink lettering and designs on the spine, a small spot of fading at the foot of the spine. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain, toned at the endpapers, clean otherwise. A Campbell and Morgan detective novel, this time focusing on the murder of a local newspaper editor in the midst of a heated political campaign. This was also published under the title "Stiffs Don't Vote" and was adapted into the 1944 William Clemens film Crime by Night starring Jane Wyman and Jerome Cowan. Very Good / Good.
