Illustrated, with seven of eight plates. Lacking plate III. The plates depict the single barrelled air-pump Boyle and Hooke devised. Plate V demonstrates Boyle's experiment of sucking water using his pump to the top of the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Boyle worked hard to devise improvements on Otto von Guericke's air pump or vacuum chamber. His end result was the 'machina Boyleana' or 'Pneumatical Engine' which was finished in 1659. His account of the work was in the first publication 'New Experiments Physico-Mechanical'. This is a continuation from that original work. This continuation was written, as Boyle states to the preface, because he had 'promis'd a Second part of it, or a large Appendix to it...' ESTC reference no. R34411. CONDITION Disbound.
