Corners are bumped. Gold gilt still present on edges. Writing and underling present on pages. See pictures and below for more details. London Many notations with underlining are written throughout about the book with criticisms of Mr. Knight, presumably the publisher Charles Knight. From the library of Pierce Mease Butler and Frances "Fanny" Butler (Kemble) with Butler Place bookplate on the front pastedown Signed on the top title page Fanny Kemble (Frances Anne "Fanny" Kemble 1809-1893), British Actress and writer Frances "Fanny" Kemble was married to Pierce Mease Butler from 1834-1849 In 1847, Following her father's example, she appeared with success as a Shakespearean reader, rather than acting in plays. She toured the United States. Later publishing the book Notes on Shakespeare's Plays in 1882. Kemble returned to acting as a solo platform performer, beginning her first American tour in 1849. During her readings she rose to focus on presenting edited works of Shakespeare, though unlike others she insisted on representing his entire canon, ultimately building her repertoire to 25 of his plays.
