Mongkut (Rama IV), reigning title Phra Chom Klao Chao Yu Hua, fourth monarch of Siam (1804-1868).
Autograph letter signed.
"Royal residence grand palace", i. e. Bangkok, 2. VII. 1857. 8vo. 3 pages on bifolium. Accompanied by a specimen each of his letterhead and his envelope. To the Scots-born entrepreneur Samuel Gilfillan, first manager of the Borneo Company, Siam: "Having received in person your favourable promise or acceptance to fulfill my desire of Stationery in larger sizes of papers & of envelopes & copying or letters' books, than the former which you have had finished by order for me on last occasion, I have now liberty to make a model of my Standard both in drawing & wax-sealing put in the accompanied parcel, to be imitate or make in resemblence upon head or at left co[r]ner of the first page of every sheet of writing lines papers & upon the locking part of envelopes. I hope you will send the said parcel to England in accompanying your order for the ordered Stationery [.]". - Some brownstaining.
