A classic manual of "vulgar [i.e., commercial], painting" on wood surfaces, including sundials, apparently by the English clockmaker, John Smith, previously published in 1676, 1687, and 1701; and in subsequent versions of 1723 and 1769; with chapters added here on the art of coloring maps with watercolors An interesting copy, with 7 pp. of manuscript recipes in a contemporary hand inserted between the Preface and the Table of Contents.
