Just ask! 1801 Japanese Ikebana Flower Arrangement Tokugawa Japan Woodblock Print Enshu 4v An interesting 19th century woodblock-print of 'The Fragrance of Flower Arrangements.' This collection of writings is about the calligraphic style of flower arranging (Ikebana) called Enshu. The Enshu School of Ikebana was founded in the 17th century by Lord Kobori Enshu, a member of the Imperial Court of Japan in the Edo Era. Lord Enshu tutored "Iemitsu" of the Tokugawa Shogunate whose artistic concepts were expressed in the art of flower arrangement resulting in the establishment of Kado Enshu. The Enshu style became popular among the nobles and members of the Samurai class and the masses. The style is composed of gracefully curving lines to depict flowing calligraphy. This 4-volume set depicts how cuts are made along the branch, into which wedges are inserted to form the desired calligraphic shape. This rare 1801 edition is written in the typical column handwritten format with furigana usage for easier reading with excellent illustrations throughout of different types of flowers and their proper arrangements!
