Chez Duchesne, Librairie, 1754. First Edition. Hard Cover. 12mo. Good. 10 Volumes, complete. 16.5 x 10.5 cm. Full speckled calf with five raised bands, gilt titling and volume number in two panels, all edges stained red; volumes published between the years 1754 (V1) and 1760 (V10). Volumes 1-8 were written by Du Tertre, and Volumes 9 and 10 were written by Desormeaux, as Du Tertre had died in 1759. Insect damage of varying degrees to leather of all volumes. Heavy wear, coupled with insect damage, to spine ends of most volumes. Some stepping to gatherings in a few volumes, but gatherings still holding firm. Each volume bears the bookplate of the historian Samson B. Knoll, which was designed for him by Frans Masereel. Ink and pencil notation to the front pastedown of Volume I, and possible previous owner's name in ink on recto of front free endpaper of same volume. Inked notation on the verso of each free front endpaper of each volume. Knoll's volume number stamp is also on the verso of each rear free endpaper. Volumes otherwise clean and unmarked.
