A Basle, chés Jean Rodolphe Im Hof, 1744. In-8 (16.5 x 21.2 cm), full calfskin binding, spine with 5 nerves adorned with gilded boxes, very beautiful engraved title and frontispiece, LIX-130 pages, text in German and French, danse macabre drawn and engraved on the original by Matthäus Merian, to which are added a description of the town of Basle and verses to each figure. 43 figures in the text including the famous figure which shows a face in the right direction and a skull in the other. This first edition is to be preferred to those of 1756 and 1759, of inferior quality to this one; a text sheet and a white sheet missing in fine, small cracks on the back, otherwise fresh interior, good condition.
