99265 MARCELLIUS (Henri). Paris, Michael Soly, 1635. 8to. 25 leaves. (1 blank). 1226 pages. (2 blanks). 52 leaves. Contemporary full limp vellum, manuscript title on spine, trace of cord laces. First Edition. Very scarce compilation published by the Dutch Jesuit Henri Marcellius (1593-1684), who was a Professor of mathematics, philosophy and theology. This "Scientific Arsenal" was composed during the brief stay of the author to the Jesuit college of Reims. It is a huge collection of philosophical notions articulated in 66 chapters covering all the taught corpus, with noteworthy chapters dedicated to science: "De coelo et astris", "de elementis", "de plantis", "de Animalibus", "De scientia in genere", etc.Minor wormtracks, and small loss of paper in the margins of a few leaves. Fine copy otherwise, bound in one book block (it is often found divided because of the thickness of the volume) and bound in a nice contemporary vellum, very well preserved, with laces almost untouched.
