The Book of Common prayer is dated 1611 and was printed by Robert Barker, the printer to James I of England. His father, Christopher Barker, had been printer to Queen Elizabeth I. Barker is best known for his printing of the King James Bible, one of the most important books to be printed in the English language. The King James Bible was first printed the same year as this Book of Common Prayer. In addition to this, Barker is known for co-publishing the infamous 'Wicked Bible' with the topographical error to the sentence 'Thou shalt not commit adultery'. Both of the works to this volume are in blackletter. The Psalms volume has several leaves with woodcuts of the accompanying sheet music.
